Thoughts on the John Chow, Johnathan Volk, Zach Johnson Webinar

As I write this post,I’m listening in on the webinar that john chow, johnathan volk, and zach johnson are having about making money online. I guess the first thing I can say is – it’s crap. When I say crap, I mean I really feel bad about the people who are actually following the way these guys are making money. It seems like the only guy who actually knows what he’s talking about is zach johnson.

Zach Johnson opened this webinar talking about buying good domain names – which I think is pretty important especially if you want to see some instant traffic and possibly some instant cash in your pocket.  I really don’t think google will take away the value of a domain name too much – when it comes to rankings anyway.  Every single exact match domain I have ever bought has turned out pretty good…at least they are not tanking like some of my other sites.

There was some good to come from this shitpile of a webinar. There are actually people making money online that follow john chow and the like…like Trent with Online Income Lab. He asked a question on the webinar which led me to go to his site. I like what he has going there, especially since he is a former “real business” owner and actually knows how to run a business – by not doing everything yourself. It sounds like Trent outsources a lot of the work.  But the biggest thing I noticed was that he actually did BACKLINKING….du du duuuuu….backlinks bitch, something john chow got slapped for i guess, and something the “big 3″ didn’t even mention in the webinar (except using guest posts to redirect traffic from a similar blog – which is fine, just get the correctly anchored backlink!).

I would have liked to see some more specifics in this presentation than what they talked about in this. Maybe it was just me tho, I was just thinking that maybe these guys had something good to say other than build your fucking shit list so you can create 1000 emails to go out to your “loyal” readers.

…webinar is still going on…im not getting much done…

Another thing about onlineincomelab.com, I see he posted his earnings for the first 4 months or so he has been on the internet…I see $98 in dec2010, $112 in Jan2011, and $223 in Feb2011.  I don’t think the john chow method will allow you to get nearly 100% gains in your first 6 months (well i guess 0 to $2 is 200%, haha).

Well…I gotta leave the webinar and get back to work. All in all, I don’t want you to think that I hate the big 3, I don’t hate anyone, I just disagree with some of their methods and I hope to god less and  less people follow their system…post good content with keywords, get backlinks, yes-build a list-but for a passion site not for your splinter free toilet seats site.

Wait a minute – Mr. Johnson just said something about article marketing and posting to get links for search rankings…another reason I like him and despise the others.

Welcome To Free Search Marketing Tips

Well, to start off, I guess I’ll tell you my background in this crazy game of making money online.  There are A LOT of strategies out there that work, and billions that will not.  That is what I’m trying to do here – let you know what not to do, and what you should do.  Now by no means am I a “guru” or a super internet marketer or whatever, but I do have some knowledge and opinions on what works.

search marketing starting outI started internet marketing in October of 2008.  I was bored…bored with my “real job” and life in general, which I think is why I started working online.  I started my first website based on John Chow and his way of making money – not in the internet marketing niche, but a hobby of mine.  It’s actually a pretty big site today and does alright as far as money in my pocket, but it’s NOT because of John Chow…It was Allyn at Blogger Illustrated and Griz at Make Money Online For Beginners.  Be sure to check out those sites, great learning material and all for free.

So I took John Chow’s advice and started just blogging about a passion.  I did start to get traffic, but there was literally NO money coming in.  I didn’t get my first commission until 6 months later ($25.50).  I got if from a niche website I started after my initial website…this was when I found Allyn and Griz and started doing what they do.

I eventually started creating many niche sites around any topic or keyword that I could find that might be profitable…and it worked! Now I have a bunch of sites that are making money around the clock without much actual updating or additional work.  I’m starting to grow my “better” sites to make them bigger so the search engines see them as an authority.  I’m also getting into email marketing (aka: relationship marketing), and pay per click (PPC) advertising.

The truth is, if you are an absolute beginner – have no knowledge of any internet marketing or don’t even know what the hell internet marketing is – you can learn this shit…its easy to setup websites, find keywords, get content, etc etc.  You just have to WANT to do this – if it seems like you would hate, don’t try, you will fail – probably by giving up too early.

In the next few posts I’ll be going over some very basic outlines of what I do to make money online – that way, you have an idea what you will be in for.  For now this is what you should do:

1. Find a niche that you think you can sell something in (if you like working on cars – a car blog, if you like golfing – something related to golf)

2. Start thinking about how much money you are willing to put up to start your first website – it’s approximately $7 per month for hosting, and $10 a year for a domain. (So you need at least $100 to get started).  btw, you can do this cheaper than that with the right deals, and if ur a good writer – you won’t need much more money)

So! This is what were gonna do…………shots.
